Good morning, Wycombe!
I’ve spent the past four weeks mooching around Thailand and have come back to… the exact same heatwave I left a month ago. This time with more feral children (mine included) and scorched grass. The Rye’s doing a solid impression of a spaghetti western set.
But there’s plenty on to distract from the heat:
🖼️ Brand new exhibition opening from world-renowned Derek Ogbourne
🏛️ NEW: Council happenings this week
🕺🏻 Dance Fitness classes kick off on The Rye
Plus how to keep the kids entertained this week (3.5 weeks to go ), wellness and creative events, live music, and much more.
Back for its third year at Lacey Green, and this time with a TV star headliner.

Elliot Wengler (he of Wycombe’s Select Comedy Club fame) is bringing an absolutely cracking line-up for this charity night in aid of local hospices.
🎤 Headlined by Ria Lina — Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Have I Got News For You, and a regular on Pointless
🎭 Plus Chris Norton Walker, Andy Gleeks and Sally Firth, MC’d by Elliot Wengler
📅 Saturday 26th September — doors & bar 7pm, show 8pm
📍 Lacey Green & Loosley Row Village Hall, Main Road, Lacey Green HP27 0PL
🎟️ £20 per person (no booking fees!)
All profits raised go to Helen & Douglas House, Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care and Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity — Speen Helping Hospices (SHH) has raised over a massive £200,000 for local hospices since 2001.

🏛️ Council Catch-Up
I’m trialling this new section — there’s always a mountain going on in various council committees every week so I’m going to try to dig out the stuff that’s relevant to Wycombe. Feedback welcome — useful? Not useful?! Anything in particular you’d like covered?
🚦 Traffic calming could be coming to Totteridge & Bowerdean The go-ahead has been given to consult on a speed table, speed cushions and new double yellows for various roads in the area. It’s not a done deal yet: this decision just clears the way for statutory public consultation, so residents will get a say before anything’s installed. 👉 View the decision
🍺 The Jolly Bodger applies for change of use An application's gone in to change the site of the former pub on Chairborough Road into three 3-bed flats and ground-floor retail space. 👉 View application PL/26/05844/FA
🏡 Gomm Valley is ticking off the small print before building starts Two applications have landed for the Gomm Valley scheme that got the green light back in December — 544 new homes off Cock Lane. Both ask the council to sign off on legal pledges (Section 106 obligations) the developer made as part of that permission, one specifically the custom-build housing promise. It’s not confirmation diggers are moving in, but is a real sign the paperwork’s clearing the way for building to start. 👉 View application PL/26/05359/MDLA · View application PL/26/05883/MDLA
📋 Big one: the Draft Local Plan closes 6 September This is the document that decides where Wycombe (and the rest of Bucks) grows for the next fifteen years — housing sites, Green Belt, the lot. If you've got views, this is your last chance to share. 👉 Have your say here
📅 Coming up: High Wycombe Community Board meets Weds 2 September (meeting page), and the Town Committee meets Tues 8 September (meeting page) — agendas to follow.

Community Notes
🏛️ Fancy helping run the Museum?
Wycombe Museum needs new trustees — including a Treasurer — for the charity that's kept it free and open since 2016. Voluntary, around eight hours a month, steering strategy for a 150-year-old institution.
