Good morning, Wycombe!
What a week. High winds, Wycombe High in the middle of a national row and, for me personally, a mega-tantrum at Rush Trampoline Park from a 4-year-old with nothing to lose. Half term’s nearly over, so bring on the Halloween sugar crash. 🤪
Here’s what’s on:
🧸 Smyths Toys opens today
🎆 Halloween fireworks at the Cricket Club
🧟 Frankenstein at Wycombe Abbey
Plus a Halloween scare maze, up to 400 new jobs at the old J&J site, have your say on the Chiltern Rangers’ new home, and much more.
⚽ Quid-A-Kid at Adams Park | Wycombe v Burton Albion 🎃
Half-term’s big finish, for just £1 per kid.

Quid-A-Kid is back at Adams Park for Halloween, so every kids’ ticket is £1, anywhere in the stadium.
Wondering if your little one's ready for their first match? This is the low-stakes way to find out. At a quid a ticket, nobody minds if they're more into the bouncy castle than the second half, and these games turn hundreds of kids into new Chairboys fans every season.
Get there early, because there's loads on before kick-off. Kids can bounce on the bouncy castle, try the fast feet challenge, have a go at football darts or head to the Mini Blues Zone, and the club's putting on some Halloween fun around the ground too.
📅 Saturday 31st October,
⏰ Warm-ups begin 2.10pm, 3pm kick-off
📍 Adams Park
🎟️ £1 for fans aged 15 and under
🍔 Food and drink in the Chairboys Village, plus the new giant screen
🚗 Book parking at Adams Park or Millbrook School

Here's a glimpse at what's new this week:

Notices start at £9.95 and you can place them for a week or a month, with up to six photos, and every new one goes on our Instagram Stories.
Council Catch-Up
🏗️ Of note in the planning inbox:
Shrublands flats extension refused: going against officers’ recommendation, councillors refused two extra storeys on the former Queens Road day hospital. Members found the design too big and overbearing for the area.
69 Marlow Road refused again: councillors narrowly backed officers and refused a third bid to keep a house built 3m deeper than approved, finding it overbearing on next door. The owner’s representative told the meeting that council enforcement officers had twice said the build matched the plans.
Last call on Chiltern Rangers’ “The Barns”: comments on plans for a permanent base at Abbey Barn South, with room for volunteers, schools and groups, close tomorrow (Fri 30 Oct).
Johnson & Johnson’s old HQ to become warehouses: five industrial units have been approved for the empty site, and owner Legal & General says they’ll bring 200–400 permanent jobs. Work starts before Christmas, with the park opening in late 2028.
🏥 Getting seen at Wycombe’s UTC could soon be quicker: minutes from the council’s health committee from 1st Oct say the Urgent Treatment Centre will trial letting patients book straight into a face-to-face appointment, with no phone assessment first — potentially freeing up 20–30 extra appointments a day, and the trial gets its first review in November. The same meeting heard that plans for a Women’s Health Hub on Queen Victoria Road are in the works.
